Another gem from the mysterious William Fender who heard it ‘on board Nova Scotian, pumping ship, one of McCann’s from “cockney bloke”‘. The first two verses are from Fender but it’s so much fun to sing that I supplemented his with a few of my own and a few floaters.

 1. He says young maid will you come along with me

Aye, aye, aye, Bendigo

He says young maid will you come along with me

Aye-oh!

He says young maid will you come along with me

To the sunny shore of Amer-eye-kee.

Down in those valleys down below aye-oh, aye-oh,

Down in those valleys down below!

 2. She says young man I will will go along with ye

To the sunny shores of Amer-eye-kee.

 3. And when they reached that sunny land

He asked his true love for her hand.

 4. We’re outward bound at the break of day

We’re outward bound for Amer-eye-kee.

 5. And when we reach that sunny shore

This lousy tub we’ll see no more.

 6. Heave and bust her is the cry

A sailors wage is never high.
